WCNKAS volunteers are making a difference, join the effort!
Foster * Adopt * Donate * Volunteer!
Did you ever think you’d see the day that Wilson County Texas would have its own safe haven for injured, lost, and abandoned animals? With the help of all our Volunteer's, donations and our amazing WCNKAS Volunteer Board of Directors , we keep striving for that goal! Just one more building...we are almost there!
Your help is needed:
Now that we have dogs at our shelter property, we need help every day twice per day at 7:30am and 5:00pm. Work involves taking dogs out of their kennels, walking them, feeding, and cleaning kennels.
We also need help in the office. We would like someone in the office for a few hours each day from 10am to 2pm.
Our cat building will be delivered in about 2 weeks. We’ll be finishing that building (installing electrical and plumbing) and then rearranging supplies so we can finish the office as well.
If you can commit to help in any way, please let us know.
Call Alena at: 830-333-3888, she will coordinate the volunteer schedule.
We will have a whiteboard in the office this week to get on a regular schedule.
We really appreciate all the help we can get! Thank you!!!
Are you looking for friends to exercise with? Do you love dogs? Do you need some motivation to get your fitness on? Do you like cuddling canines? Are you trying to lose a few pounds before summer? Would you like a few more friends who share your love of animals?
Look no further! We have our very own K9 FIT PIT right here! That’s right - come on over to the WCNKAS shelter, grab a leash and a dog, and take a walk or run around our 7 acre property. We exercise twice per day at 7:30am and 5pm. Some of our volunteers have lost 12 pounds just by walking or running with our shelter dogs. If you would like to join our K9 FIT PIT group, let us know and we’ll add you to the group.
You can help the Wilson County No Kill Animal Shelter AND get a custom portrait of your pet. Wilson County artist Rebecca Lilly Segura is donating her time and talent to support WCNKAS by creating ten custom pet portraits. Mrs. Segura uses cloth to paint the portrait, then uses thread and a sewing machine to complete the detail work. Technically speaking, the art is a quilt but not one you would sleep under. Rebecca has won many awards in local and international art competitions as well as quilt shows. Currently you can see her work hanging in the art gallery at Say Si in San Antonio (until January 25, 2019) and The Center for Contemporary Art in Abilene (until January 26, 2019). If you would like to own a one-of-a-kind piece of art featuring your pet, submit a high-quality photograph to RebeccaLillySegura@gmail.com for consideration. Only ten photos from those submitted will be selected and Mrs. Segura will notify those owners. Once your photo has been selected, you will donate $200 to WCNKAS and the work on your portrait will begin. Please keep in mind that these artworks are done one at a time and it takes 3-6 weeks to create just one. The finished artwork will be about 16 x 20 inches and come with a hanging device for display on your wall. The best photos for this process are usually taken at eye-level with the pet, in focus, and in natural light (flash photography is not recommended). Feel free to contact Mrs. Segura via the above email if you have questions. To see some of her artwork, visit www.ThreadHeadQuilts.com or her Face Book page at https://www.facebook.com/Rebecca.Lilly.Segura. Your donation is tax deductible and will help build a facility which will provide care and support for animals in Wilson County, TX.
